Video game releases tend to be concentrated in the months leading up to Christmas and with hundreds of hits being released per year (some with more marketing than others). They work in much the same way movies work in that some are bound to be successful hits (even making back 10 fold what was put in) while others will fail (not even covering development). Below is a list from PS3NEWS.com of their predictions for the 2008 fiscal year.

Simply put for example, even a decent shooter like Red Faction: Guerrilla won’t be able to compete against a heavy hitter like Gears of War 2. 2008 certainly has its share of hits.
