PS3

About 2 years ago, the PS3 was released to long lines of loyal Sony fans. A personal friend of mine quit his job at Best Buy in order to secure a place in line to purchase the console. Of course with such hotly anticipated titles, there were numerous stories of bizarre behavior.

There were others who would buy the console and flip it for a profit on Ebay and Craigslist. The first person in line near one of the stores in my area managed to sell his unit for two grand in cash in the parking lot. It has been a long 2 years since then and the PS3’s line-up of videogames and support have grown much stronger. Resistance 2 has already been released to favorable critics and the PS3 is now a bigger force than ever in the video game industry.

The Zombie mode of Call of Duty: World at War is a sure hit for fans of zombie flicks. I know I am, I even read the Zombie Survival Guide book. The zombie mode will have up to four players playing co-op defending themselves against limitless waves of zombies. Kills will then be converted over for points that can be used to buy further upgrades and weapons. The Zombie mode for Call of Duty 5 is unlockable after completing the single player campaign first. You will also be able to unlock the co-op campaign mode after beating the single player.

PS3 Controller

PS3 Controller

Wow, this story really amazes me. I guess it should come as no surprise, many of us gamers often wonder what we would do if we were bedridden and disabled, the answer would probably be to do the same thing we normally do anyways, play video games! Forum poster KitsuneYume has taken that one step further and built a controller suited for his own ability. He controls it with pretty much his whole body including a tongue controlled joystick! All the signals are wired into a standard PS3 controller. He was even able to beat the demo for Mirror’s Edge along with many others! Personally I don’t think myself resourceful enough to pull off something like this.

PSP PS3

The PSP to date has sold about 40 million units. The PS3 on the other hand, at 17 million units, lags behind its other console competitors such as the Xbox 360 and the Wii. Sony has been trying to boost its sales through a variety of factors (that don’t include a price drop). In my opinion, Sony needs to hurry up and implement the feature that will allow PSP users to play games on their PS3 on the go if they want to boost their sales. After all, it has the potential to turn a big chunk of their PSP base into PS3 owners as well. Sony can learn a thing or two from Apple with regards to hardware interconnectivity.

I recently read an article by a blogger that listed the reasons why the PS3 is in a better position to take over the First Person Shooter market than the Xbox 360. Its flagship hit Resistance: Fall of Man has just seen the sequel Resistance 2 come out. There is no word on a Halo 4 from Microsoft and it may be a while especially since the story arch has ended with the trilogy. Gears of War is technically not a FPS but a third person shooter so that doesn’t count. Any my personally most anticipated title is this game which was first shown in E3 2005. Killzone was a not so great shooter on the PS2 but Killzone 2 looks like it will be the shooter to define this generation of consoles. Every Xbox owner I know admits they are at least a litte jealous of this title being a PS3 exclusive.

Resistance 2

Resistance 2 pic

Resistance 2 Art

Resistance 2 is the premier epic first person shooter for the PS3. It was released on tuesday and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Resistance 2 picks up right after the first one left off and without going in to too much detail, will take place primarily on American soil during a Chimera invasion. Reviewers have cited the bigger levels, bigger bosses and enemies and overall quality of the game as the primary reason that this game is a must have for the PS3! Resistance 2 is the reason Xbox owners can be envious of PS3 owners as they will miss out on the awesome experience. The storyline has also been beefed up. One of my biggest complaints was the lack of a deeper story or even any spoken dialogue by protagonist Nathan Hale in the first game but that is much different this time as it takes a much more personal approach to the hero.  Overall, the game is a radical improvement on the first (which is already a difficult feat).

Playstation 3 Controller

It has long been rumored that Sony is poised to attack Nintendo’s motion sensing controller market. After all, the PS3’s controller does have the six-axis which has had limited success. Leaked images of a new patent currently being filed reveal a break apart controller that will have capabilities far superior to the Wii remote. The motion sensing will utilize the Playstation eye as well as ultrasonic waves to map out motions in 3D space. Simulating the shaking of a rain stick (see above) is but one of the many possibilities that the new controller will provide. My 2 cents? If Sony does decide to implement this, they should do it now or at least soon…

In honor of Halloween, I found this cool article about video game costumes. I know I know, its probably the most geeky costume next to Star Trek! You gotta admit though, that Bioshock combo was pretty cool…

6. Vincent Valentine - Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy characters always look like awesome. Even if people aren’t familiar with the franchise, if you pull it off right, people will think your costume is great.

Red Alert 3

The moment is finally at hand, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 is finally here and the reviews are in! Fans will be happy to hear that the game has generally received very positive reviews. The over-the-top story and graphics as well as the crazy units all mix together to form a very enjoyable foray into the alternate history of the Red Alert 3 universe. There are a few small bugs in gameplay and multiplayer functionality but nothing that can’t be addressed with a future patch. It seems like the Command and Conquer series is able to get better and better cast ensembles with each iteration and this time around they have a pretty star-studded cast.

Far Cry 2 might be a sequel in name to the original Far Cry, but that is about where the similarities end. Aside from the fact that the two games don’t really tie into each other, Far Cry 2 features a different type of story all together. It takes place on the African Savannah instead of on a remote island. The story is much more realistic as it features an African state ruled by warlords and profiteers. Game play is excellent as it focuses on the shooting aspect set in a large free-roaming world. I’ve had the chance to play a little and I really love the fire effect. If you are into large free-roaming worlds but with a first person shooter aspect, then this is definitely the game to get. Oh and the graphics are absolutely stunning.
